“Getting a hair cut, or getting your ears lowered as we used to call it, usually meant going to the barber shop; but when times were hard or you lived too far out in the country, a pair of scissors and a skilled mom or dad would do the job. In this painting, it’s that time again, and this little guy wants to make sure that his mom gets it exactly right. When she’s finished, he will have some hair down his back and will probably itch a little for the rest of the day. The closeness between a mother and her son is very special, and I wanted to show this emotion in my painting.”
